Zinc

Zinc is a sacrificial coating used to prevent corrosion of the parent metal (usually steel). The corrosion resistance of zinc is very comparable to cadmium. With the use of chromates and sealers, the corrosion resistance can be increased.

Zinc has other applications such as:

  • Improving the aesthetic value of the part
  • Lubricity
  • Combined with chromate or phosphate, makes a good paint base
  • Combined with chromates and dyes can be used for identification purposes
