Passivation

Passivation is a chemical process which is used to clean and improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steels and other corrosion resistant alloys.  The process removes metallic contaminants left behind by machining and forming operations and improves the metal’s corrosion resistance by accelerating the formation of a passive oxide layer.

Why are parts passivated?

  • Remove metallic contaminants to ensure a clean, finished surface
  • Improve corrosion resistance
  • Prepare for subsequent finishing operations

Why Hohman Plating?

  • Robust process accommodates a wide variety of part types, base materials, and conditions
  • Ability to process to several industry standards
  • Process can also be tailored to meet customer specifications
